Itinerary: 3 Days in Da Nang & Hoi An

DAY 1

+ Afternoon: Cham Pa Museum +

On your way from the airport to your hotel, stop at the Cham Pa Museum (Cham

Sculpture Museum). The term Champa refers to a collection of Cham groups that lived across the central and southern Vietnamese coast from the 7th through 19th centuries, before being taken over by the Vietnamese state in 1832. The museum houses the world's largest collection of Cham sculpture, including more than 300 pieces from the 5th through 15th centuries.

+ Late Afternoon: Beach +

Check into your hotel (Vietnomnomnom recommends Naman Retreat for those looking for a luxury Vietnam resort experience), and immediately head to the beach. Enjoy a pre-dinner coconut or cocktail.

+ Dinner: Hoi An Specialties +

Take a taxi to Hoi An. For a more casual experience, sit with the locals at Ba Le Well and try a variety of Hoi An specialties. Prefer something indoors with A/C? Go to Morning Glory, and be sure to order the stuffed squid, the "white rose," and the coconut banana dessert (pictured below).

+ Evening: Night Market +

Stroll along the river in Hoi An, snack on a fried banana pancake, and stop in the night market for some souvenir shopping.

+ Late Night: Bánh Mì Snack +

Need a late night snack? Go to Bánh Mì Phượng for one of the best bánh mì's in Vietnam. Anthony Bourdain stops here in one of his No Reservations Vietnam episodes.

DAY 2

+ Morning: Climb Marble Mountain +

The Marble Mountains are a group of five marble and limestone hills located just south of Da Nang City. All of the mountains have cave entrances and numerous tunnels, and one of them can be climbed to the top, where you'll find a beautiful view of Da Nang and several Buddhist temples and statues. Vietnomnomnom recommends climbing by foot as the elevator has a tendency to break down frequently.

+ Lunch: Central Market +

Take a taxi to the Central Market in Hoi An and explore the variety of produce, meats, and handicrafts. For lunch, inside of the market, eat the traditional Hoi An noodle dish, cao lầu (pictured at right). Choose the vendor with the most customers to ensure the freshest of ingredients.

+ Afternoon: Hoi An Old Town +

In the afternoon, take a walking or cycling tour to discover the historic town, a former seaport city during the 16th to 18th centuries. Visit and have tea at one of the ancient homes (Vietnomnomnom recommends the Tan Ky old house), stop by the Fukien Assembly Hall, and cross the 400-year-old Japanese covered bridge. Have a coffee at Cocobox or Hoi An Roastery.

+ Dinner: Hoi An +

Stay in Hoi An for dinner, and eat at Ba Le Well if you didn't have a chance the previous evening. Still not in the mood for the streetside pub experience? Try Brother's Cafe, a relaxing sit-down restaurant right along the river.

+ Evening: Shopping, Bar, or Cafe +

Spend more time at the night market for shopping, or head to Mango Room for a drink or The Cargo Club for drinks, coffees, and desserts. Both spots have picturesque views of the river. If you're in the mood for something more upbeat, Da Nang City has a more lively nightlife. Head to Sky36 or Phuong Dong for drinks, music, and dancing.

DAY 3

+ Morning: Cooking Class or Cycling +

Hoi An is the perfect destination for those seeking to experience a Vietnamese cooking class, as the city has strong culinary roots and ample access to fresh seafood, produce, and meats. Morning Glory, Herbs & Spices Restaurant, or the Secret Garden are all popular spots for this activity. Not interested in cooking? Rent a bike and experience the old town from a different perspective.

+ Lunch: The Little Menu Restaurant or Lam Vien Restaurant +

Still feeling hungry after your cooking class? Go to The Little Menu Restaurant for one last Hoi An culinary experience, or on your way to the airport, stop at Lam Vien Restaurant in Da Nang City.
