A lively evening/late night spot, Acoustic features a house band and guest singers. The band and singers typically perform pop and rock hits from the 70s, 80s, 90s, and 2000s. Each performer sings three songs, then the next singer immediately follows. Customers sit at small or high top tables, and there's some space for dancing, too. If you want a place to sit, recommend arriving no later than 9pm. Drinks are reasonably priced, though nothing special.
Located in District 2 in the APSC Compound, the Boat House is a casual restaurant with a relaxed ambiance. Customers sit outside and riverside, with live music and a diverse food & drink menu. Food items include American, Mexican, seafood, Asian fusion, and a kid's menu. The Saigon River breeze, the surrounding greenery, the live acoustic rock music, perfect for a lowkey night out. The Boat House makes the list for best live music venue not only for the ambiance, but also for the incredible talent of the house band. (Note: they do not have live music on Monday nights.)
Carmen Bar is a Latin-Pop live music venue, with a five-piece house band and rotating lead and back-up singers. Singers are typically Vietnamese or Filippino, and sing Latin, pop, and Latin-pop material. The venue is relaxed, and all customers are seated at low or high top tables. There is no cover, but drinks prices are high. Good for a romantic date night or for small groups.
Cafe by day, music lounge by night, La Fenetre Soleil makes the Vietnomnomnom Best Of list for its beautiful French building architecture, cozy and tucked-away venue, and variety of quality music. Music genres include jazz, pop, oldies, and rock & roll, and performers are talented and fun to watch. Ambiance varies from loud and lively, to soft and relaxing, depending on the night. Great spot for a date, or a fun night out.
Saigon Outcast is a unique venue in Ho Chi Minh - it's a restaurant, a kid's playground, an adult's playground, an event venue, an outdoor market, and a live music venue. You can catch live music here on various evenings throughout the week. Weekly live music events include the Jameson Acoustic Jam, Nola Blues Nights, and PALM Gypsy Jazz. Check out their Facebook Events page for more information. Bonus - guests can enjoy the climbing wall, pool tables, and a variety of outdoor games during their visit as well. Food menu is mediocre, but they offer a great selection of local and imported beers.
Saigon Ranger hosts an incredibly wide variety of live music, appealing to any musical taste. Every Regular weekly events include Saturday Blues Night and Sunday Jazz Night. Musicians are typically impressive, and the venue is small, allowing for an intimate experience. Note - drink prices are a bit high, and they do allow smoking.
Sax n Art Jazz Club plays jazz music starting at 9pm every evening. Alongside the house band, the club typically features saxophone player Tran Manh Tuan (the founder), who plays traditional contemporary jazz with a Vietnamese twist. Customers must pay a cover (around 150,000 EA), and drink prices are steep, but worth the price to see great jazz talent. Perfect for date night, and/or a small group night out.
Despite the cheesy cowboy-saloon theme, Seventeen Saloon is a great venue for live music. Two floors of music (one pop music, the other rock & roll) starting at about 9pm every evening, and the singers and musicians are incredibly talented. The drink menu is pricy but varied, and guests are served popcorn on the house as a nice snack. (Other snacks can be purchased, but no full meals.) Be prepared for loud speakers and cigarette smoke (though not too smoky as there is good ventilation), but overall, a great spot for a night out and fun live music.
Thi Bar is a small, intimate live music venue, with a talented house band (covering a variety of popular songs), and numerous guest musicians. The staff is friendly, and the ambiance is lively and relaxed simultaneously. Drink prices are high, but they do provide drink special: happy hour every day from 5pm to 9pm, and on Wednesday, an all-night buy two get one free promotion. Note - live music typically starts late, around 10pm, and goes until late night.
Yoko is a medium-sized, intimate, relaxed music venue hosting a range of genres including rock, pop, acoustic, and jazz. Live music is every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday evenings, starting at 9pm. Performers, both Vietnamese and foreign, are generally talented and entertaining. Guests can sit at tables or in comfy couches, and there are two levels of seating with clear views of the performers. Drink prices are reasonable, and customers can order food as well. During the day, Thi Bar is cozy cafe. Note - Yoko does allow smoking.
